You spent time and money getting a website built — but the phone isn't ringing and the enquiry form is collecting dust. Sound familiar?
Here are the five most common reasons small business websites fail to generate leads — and what you can do about each one.
1. Google can't find you If your website has no SEO work done on it, Google doesn't know who you are or what you do. Basic on-page SEO — the right keywords in your headings, page titles, and descriptions — is what tells Google 'this business is based in South Australia and they do X'.
Fix it: Make sure every page has a clear title, a proper meta description, and that your main services and location are mentioned naturally in the content.
2. It looks broken on mobile More than 60% of web searches now happen on a phone. If your site loads slowly, text is too small, or buttons are hard to tap — visitors leave in seconds and never come back. Google also ranks mobile-friendly sites higher.
Fix it: Test your site on your own phone right now. If something looks off, it needs fixing.
3. There's no clear call to action Visitors land on your page and… then what? If there's no obvious next step — a phone number, a quote button, a contact form — they leave.
Fix it: Every page should make the next step obvious. 'Call now', 'Get a free quote', 'Book online'.
4. Your Google Business Profile is empty or wrong For local searches, your Google Business Profile is often more important than your website. If it's incomplete, has the wrong hours, or no photos, you're invisible on Google Maps.
Fix it: Claim and complete your profile. Add photos, hours, services, and ask happy customers for reviews.
5. The site doesn't build trust No photos of you or your work. No reviews. No clear pricing. Visitors don't feel confident enough to make contact.
Fix it: Add a real photo of yourself or your team, list a few testimonials, and be upfront about what things cost.
Fixing these issues is what we do — get in touch if you'd like a free, honest review of your existing site.
